Heavenly Fragrance for the Garden!

Add fragrance to your garden and life with our two new arrivals.

Jasmine sambac 'Grand Duke' (AKA Pikake) is prized for its amazing scented blossoms. It is used for leis, perfumes, and tea. It loves warmth and thrives in full morning sun and filtered shade in the afternoon. It grows well in containers.

Arabian Jasmine

Michelia champaca (Champak) is a fast-growing evergreen tree bearing golden flowers with a sublime fragrance. It is sensitive to frost, so planting it against your house for protection is a good idea. Consult our Frost Protection Guide for other tips on protection.

Ruben's Veggie Picks

Every year, our buyer, Ruben, works hard to stock the tastiest and best selection of veggies around. This year is no exception.

Following are some of his recommendations for both tomatoes and peppers currently available.

Tomatoes:

'Ed's Millennium' is the quintessential heirloom beefsteak tomato. Developed from Brandywine by a local Master Gardener, it has exceptional flavor, thin skin, and very few seeds.

'Ed's Millenium' Tomato

'Big Mama' is a giant form of Mama Mia, nearly 3 times its size. Tasty, meaty and easy to peel, Big Mama is perfect for sauce making.

'Big Mama' Tomato

'Paul Robeson' bears medium-sized dark fruit with the characteristic complex, smoky flavor of "black" tomatoes. They are rich without being overly sweet, and make one tasty Caprese salad.

'Paul Robeson' Tomato

Peppers:

'Costa Rican Sweet' is an exceptionally sweet and tasty pepper. Use it instead of a bell pepper, raw or cooked, for an extra burst of flavor.

'Costa Rican Sweet' Pepper

'Fushimi' is a sweet Japanese Pepper about 6" long. It is very tasty and is excellent grilled or fried.

'Fushimi' Pepper

'Piment d'Espelette' is an heirloom Basque pepper that is hot but mellow, with an excellent balance of heat and flavor. It is the signature spice of Basque cooking. The peppers are picked bright red, dried, ground, then used as a powder.

'Piment d'Espette'

The above are just a few of the many varieties we offer. Many are organically grown. Check our selection often, as new items arrive and disappear weekly.

Bounce Impatiens

Exciting new color for the shade: Bounce Impatiens! They are highly resistant to Downy Mildew , and very prolific bloomers.

They are bred from New Guinea impatiens but are lower and more spreading than their parent, with flowers that look more like the beloved "Busy Lizzies". They even resist drought stress better.

They are the perfect solution for areas where downy mildew has made "Busy Lizzies" impossible to grow.

Be Water-Wise
Strive For 5% and
Mulch Everything!!

Did you know that adding 5% organic material to your soil increases its water retention by 20%!? Additionally, adding a 3" layer of mulch reduces water usage up to 30%. Because mulch will also keep roots cooler, yourplants will look better and go through the summer with much less heat stress.

G & B Organics Soil Building Conditioner is an excellent mulch and soil conditioner. It contains recycled forest products, chicken manure, bat guano, and kelp meal to add nutrients and beneficial microbes to bring life to your soil.

Use it as a mulch on top or mix it into the soil to improve drainage. It comes in 3 cubic foot bales, which cover an 18 sq ft (3' x 6') area 1" deep.

Be lavish with it and you'll reap the rewards of saving water and money, along with bountiful flowers and harvests.
