Landscape Design Program Revived!

Yamagami's is happy to announce that we are reviving our Landscape Consultation And Design Program. With a strong background in design, Hannah Soriano is our newest Landscape Consultant. She enjoys tailoring your garden to suit your needs and interests. To help her customize your plan, she provides a survey to specify what you want to achieve in your garden. One of her specialties is organic vegetable gardens, and she will be happy to design one into your existing garden.

Izu Persimmon
Back In Stock!

If you’ve thought about growing your own Fuyu persimmons but can’t deal with a 20+ foot tall tree, Izu persimmon is the solution. It is eaten crunchy, is delicious, and is a dwarf tree. It tops out at 12 feet but can be kept closer to 10 feet tall with pruning. Growing it in a large container will dwarf it even further. We have a hard time keeping them in stock, so come in soon!

Wallflowers

Late winter is not the easiest time to find flowers in the garden. A new group of Wallflowers fills that gap of time and blooms right into summer providing much delight for our over-wintering hummingbirds. These wallflowers (Erysimum) are evergreen perennials growing about 2 feet tall and wide. They bloom over a long period and offer a sweet fragrance. Plant them around summer into fall bloomers so the hummingbirds have a year-round station in your garden. Now in stock:

Erysimum Winter Party Erysimum Apricot Twist Erysimum Winter Rouge

Plant Strawberries Now
For A Berry Sweet Summer!

Few taste treats rival that first bite into a sun-ripened, homegrown strawberry. Plant them now and feast this summer. All you really need is a sunny spot. You can grow them in the ground as borders or in a garden bed. We have seen some very creative examples of container-growing from hanging baskets to strawberry pots, from raised beds to vertical planters made from pallets or PVC pipes. Where there's a will, there's a way to grow strawberries! See our Strawberry Guide for variety and culture information.

Varieties currently in stock:

An Easier Way To Garden:
Gronomic Raised Beds
And Elevated Beds

When digging in adobe soil, bending and kneeling discourage you from gardening; consider raised beds and elevated beds. Not only are they easier on your back, they provide perfect drainage for your plants. The elevated beds make deck, balcony, or rooftop growing productive and practical.

Gronomic beds are made in the USA. They are made of cedar, include a 5-year warranty, and do not require tools to assemble. Set them up, fill with organic G & B Raised Bed & Potting Mix, add plants and grow! Instant garden!

  • Mussels (one dozen per person)
  • Angel Hair pasta (you can use fettuccini, linguini - any pasta you prefer)
  • 4 sticks unsalted butter
  • 4 large garlic cloves (not the bulbs, but the large pieces from the bulbs)
  • 1/2 cup white wine
  • Fresh dill

Step by Step:

  • On the stove, bring a large pot of water (8 cups) to a boil; add the dill when water boils, along with the mussels. (Note: mussels need to be washed thoroughly before cooking, ensure they are scraped and rinsed well.)
  • Turn the heat to medium and allow to cook till all mussels have opened up.
  • Immediately remove from the stove and drain. IMPORTANT: REMOVE any and all mussels that will not open. Those should be thrown away.
  • In a large pot, bring to boil water for pasta. Cook according to directions.

Sauce:

  • In a small pot, add four sticks of unsalted butter, 1/2 cup white wine and four halved garlic cloves.
  • Allow to come to a boil, then simmer for 10 minutes.
