"May and October, the best-smelling months? I'll make a case for December: evergreen, frost, wood smoke, cinnamon."

~ Lisa Kleypas

Our Picks This Month

The days are growing darker, but our homes are getting brighter - the holidays are here! Visit us at the nursery for a hearty helping of seasonal cheer, and get your favorite holiday plants at the peak of their festive glory.

Shrubs & Color -

'Tis the season for gorgeous winter color! Here are some nursery favorites to add to your winter wonderland...

Hellebore

The rose that blooms in winter is the sweetest of all, and Hellebores, or Lenten Roses, are proof! Blooming heavily from late winter to early spring, these exquisite evergreens are well worth a spot in your garden. Look for these standout varieties in the nursery:

'Double Ellen Picotee' - Delightful bi-colored flowers are creamy white, edged with a deep plum-pink; if left undisturbed in the border, the evergreen foliage will form dense, slowly expanding clumps.

'Double Ellen Pink' - Large, soft pink, frilly flowers on glossy, dark evergreen foliage.

'Double Ellen Purple' - Compact, clump-forming, evergreen bears double maroon flowers with pale yellow stamens.

Cyclamen

A longtime cool-weather favorite, Cyclamen earns its place in the winter garden year after year. Whimsical flowers twirl atop their stems like prima ballerinas, brightening any space with their colorful performance. Forget sugarplums; this season, let visions of Cyclamen dance in your head!

Primrose

Sorry Shakespeare, we think there's nothing wrong with walking the primrose path from time to time. With our current selection of sweet, colorful primroses, we're confident you'll agree! Stop by and pick up your perfect primrose, available both in single 4" pots and in 6-pack cells.

Edibles -

Sneak some new additions into your winter vegetable garden before the weather gets too frosty! Here are a few fun ideas...

Gallon Size Veggies

A little late out of the veggie-gardening gate? Not to worry! We have several vegetables available in 1 gallon containers and larger, so there's no reason to miss out on a cool weather garden.

Bay Tree

These 4 inch Bay Tree starter sizes are downright adorable! Perfect for a pot on the patio table until it grows big enough to transplant into your kitchen garden.

Ovation Greens Mix

Like your greens to bite back? Ovation is a great combination of both mild and spicy ingredients, and includes red mustard, mizuna, tatsoi, kale, and arugula.

Houseplants -

Deck your halls to holiday perfection with these spectacular recent additions to our Houseplant Room!

Christmas Cactus

Native to Brazil, the Christmas Cactus isn't your typical cactus. Named for its consistent blooming during the holiday season, it blooms from the ends of its branches. We have Christmas Cactus in colors of red-pink and magenta, with a variety of sizes available.

HOT TIP: Christmas Cactus is a tropical - not desert - cactus, and cannot tolerate completely dry soil. For best results, water when the soil feels dry to the touch.

Glitter-Dusted Poinsettias

Get your Poinsettias pre-kissed by the Sugarplum Fairy! Our glitter-dusted Poinsettias are the perfect size for your mantle or tabletop, and sparkle with the cheer of the season.

European Living Christmas Tree

Our adorable European Living Christmas Trees are as jolly as can be! Keep this adorable cypress on a sunny windowsill during the holiday season, then transplant it outdoors to add cheer to your garden year-round. While it's inside, be sure to keep it away from direct heat sources like vents and fireplaces.

Gifts For The Gardener On Your "Nice" List

What do you get the gardener who has everything? We've got some ideas! Stop by our Gift Room and check out our stellar selection of garden trinkets, rain chains, wind chimes, pet parent accessories, and more.

Liner Pot Fruit Trees Are Back!

On the first day of Christmas, you really can give your true love a Pear tree... or a Kiwi, Fig, or Flowering Quince! Stop by the nursery to find the fruit tree you've always wanted - the cute "starter sizes" make perfect stocking stuffers.

Return Of The Roses

Think it's too early to plan your summer garden? Think again! We're receiving our first shipment of dormant Roses this week, so come see us to get your pick of the stock. We have many outstanding varieties, but here are a few that really stood out...

'Moonstone' - HUGE blooms of 6 inches and larger, with over 30 petals per bloom; soft, pearly cream with delicate pink edging with a mild, nutty, rose fragrance; wonderful cut flower; continual bloomer.

'Twilight Zone' - Double, old-fashioned, deep purple flowers overlaid with a wisp of smoke; strong, clove-and-citrus-blossom fragrance; deep green leaves compliment the remarkable flowers.

'Neptune' - Big, luscious lavender blooms tinged with purple; praise-worthy plant with large glossy green leaves, good vigor and strong vitality; best bloom size in cooler temps.

Preparation:

1. In a 2- to 3-quart pan over high heat, bring 1 cup water to a boil.
