"I appreciate the misunderstanding I have had with Nature over my perennial border. I think it is a flower garden; she thinks it is a meadow lacking grass, and tries to correct the error." ~Sara Stein, My Weeds, 1988

Prevent Summer Garden Blues with Spring Action!
|
Spring plantings can often develop summer blues. Many of your summer garden woes can be prevented NOW with very little effort. Better yet, preventative medicine is generally easier, safer and more effective than any kind of control once the problem has started.
|
NOW is the time to prevent Yellow Jackets from building nests around your garden. In spring, young queens fly out looking for a new nesting spot to build their large aggressive family. Trapping the queens with Rescue Yellow Jacket traps effectively reduces the Yellow Jacket population. Enjoy your backyard this summer without these nasty pests. For best protection, convince your neighbors to set traps too. |
Prevent Wormy Apples! What’s worse than finding a worm in your homegrown apple? Finding half a worm. Old joke, that’s not so funny when it’s your apples. Those worms are the larvae of a codling moth. Set codling moth traps out before trees bloom. When or if you see a lot of moths appear in traps, start spraying Monterey Garden Insect Spray. It comes in a handy ready-to-spray bottle you just attach to your hose. No mixing, no measuring, no leftover spray, no worries. The active ingredient, Spinosad, is derived from a naturally occurring bacteria and is safe to use on fruits and vegetables for all kinds of caterpillars. It is OMRI approved but--to be on the safe side for bees--spray at dusk when bees have gone back to their hives or nests. Use Monterey Insect Spray to enjoy your apples and pears without worrying about eating worms. |
If you have a tree or shrub that consistently gets aphids or whiteflies every summer, you can prevent them NOW with a single application of Bayer Tree & Shrub to the roots of the plant. No spraying! Hibiscus are especially susceptible to Giant White Flies which are VERY disfiguring. If you have Syzygium (AKA Eugenia) in your garden, you know how ugly Eugenia Psyllid damage can be. Prune back tips then apply Bayer Tree & Shrub and have a problem free plants. You can save yourself a lot of grief with just one application now.
